East Iceland Adventure

    • On this tour you will see the most popular places in east Iceland. Starting with a drive along the scenic south coast to the east, you will be able to see the magnificent waterfalls, the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull, and you might even spot the legendary aquatic monster- a giant worm that is said to live in the Lagarfljót river. You will also have the chance to visit Petra’s Stone collection. This tour is ideal for those wanting to go off the beaten track to less known attractions in Iceland or those re-visiting Iceland.

      Day 1 - Arrival
      Arrival in Iceland. Pick up your rental car at the airport. If times allows go for a walk to explore Reykjavík or take a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon located on route to Reykjavík from the airport.

      Overnight in Reykjavík at Fosshótels or similar 3 star hotel in Reykjavík.

      Day 2 - Explore the South Coast
      Travel along the southern coast of Icleand on the main road, road number 1. Make some stops at Seljalandsfoss waterfall (it is possible to walk behind the waterfall) and visit the edge of the world famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier, famous for its 2010 volcanic eruption which grounded 10.000 flights all around Europe. Stop in the town of Vík and go for a walk on the black sand beach.

      Overnight in the South East at Fosshótel Núpar, Hótel Hali, Fosshótel Vatnajökull or similar. Option to upgrade to 4 star Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon.

      Day 3 - The Eastfjords
      Drive east along the mighty glacier Vatnajökull. Stop at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and witness one of Iceland´s most magnificent natural wonders, definately worth a visit! You can even take a short boat trip on the lagoon. Visit the the small fishing village of Höfn before proceeding further east where you will drive along the scenic east fjords.

      Stay 3 nights at Fosshótel Eastfjords or similar.

      Day 4 - Discover East Iceland
      Spend the whole day discovering the incredible east Iceland. Travel along the coastline of the Lagarfljót river and stop at Hallormsstaður, where Iceland’s largest forest is located. You will also get a chance to see the magnificent waterfall Hengifoss.

      Day 5 - Puffins and Elves
      There is a day tour is available to visit the northernmost fjord of the Eastfjords, Borgarfjörður famous for its large puffin population. Before returning to the hotel, you must visit Álfaborg (a uniquely shaped rock castle) where the queen of elves is believed to dwell.

      Day 6 - Head to Höfn
      Today you travel back to the town of Höfn. Take your time to enjoy the stunning east fjords and their unforgettable scenery. On your way to Höfn, it is ideal to stop in Stöðvarfjörður to visit Petra's Stone collection, a large collection of Icelandic stones.

      Overnight in the South East at Fosshótel Núpar, Hótel Hali, Fosshótel Vatnajökull or similar. Option to upgrade to 4 star Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon.

      Day 7 - Jökulsárlón Glacier lagoon and Skaftafell National Park
      Today you will drive back to Reykjavík. On the way, stop at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and at the Skaftafell national park as well as other attractions you may have not had time for on the way here. The folk museum at Skógar is worth a visit which is close to Skógarfoss waterfall.

      Overnight in Reykjavík at Fosshótels or similar 3 star hotel. Option to upgrade to 4 star hotels such as Grand Hotel Reykjavík, Hótel Reykjavík Centrum or Fosshotel Reykjavík.

      Day 8 - Departure
      If time allows: Enjoy Reykjavík, or explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for relaxtion. You can also visit the lagoon on your arrival day if you have a morning flight home. Note, you must pre-book entry to the Blue Lagoon as it does get fully booked, we can book it for you! Head to the airport about 3 hours before your flight departs.
