1. Duration and Time of Year
First thing to think about is, how long do you want to stay in Iceland and what time of year do you want to visit?
In winter, travel around the South and Capital regions is recommended as these areas are accessible most of the time compared to more remote areas but still offer plenty to see and do.
In summer, travel around Iceland on the famous Route 1, the ring road and take in the highlights in each area of Iceland. If you prefer to explore in more detail, take a regional tour.
3 - 5 nights: great to spend some time in Reykjavik and 2/3 nights in South of Iceland
6 - 8 nights: perfect for regional, slow travel or Express Circle around the country
9 - 11 nights: good if you wish to travel the classic circle tour with some activities like hiking
12 - 14 nights+: this allows for a relaxed self drive tour around Iceland with lots of time for optional day tours and activities2. Vehicle Type
Pick the car that you prefer, our packages include Hertz Rental cars, from small cars to larger 4wd vehicles. In summer, contrary to beliefs- a small car is suitable, you do not need a big jeep in the summer. Roads around Iceland are good and the main routes are tarmac. For comfort, opt for a 4wd or a jeep. In winter, a 4wd is essential to tackle wintery conditions.
