Itinerary Suggestion
Day 1 - Arrival
Arrival from the UK at Keflavík International Airport. Pick up your rental car and drive to Hótel Rangá. Make yourself comfortable in the hotel or relax in the outdoor Jacuzzi.
Northern Lights Hunt
The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are an enchanting spectacle in Iceland’s skies. When you see the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky, you are struck dumb with wonder. The Northern Lights are best seen between 9 pm and 2 am at night. After an exclusive optional dinner at the hotel, you go for a hunt for the lights outside. The hotel is ideally located for Aurora viewing, away from the city lights, making you more likely to see the colourful dance of the lights. Hótel Rangá offers Aurora wake up calls so make sure you put your name down for a wake up call should the lights appear in the night!
Day 2 - The Golden Circle Drive and South Shore
We suggest you explore the Golden Circle drive and South Coast. The Golden Circle is a fascinating experience. You can walk around the world-famous Geysir geothermal area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance. Stop by the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall and visit Þingvellir National Park, the original site of the oldest still existing parliament in the world, and where the Mid-Atlantic rift is clearly visible; a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates. Explore a bit further towards the South Coast and perhaps take a walk on the glacier, Sólheimajökull in the area where the famous Eyjafjallajökull eruption was.
You will see wonderful views of the Icelandic mountains and have the opportunity stop by many amazing natural wonders like the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the Dyrholaey Peninsula, the black lava columns of Reynisdrangar and the black sands of the South Coast.
Hunt for the Northern Lights in the evening.
Day 3 - Reykjavík
Drive to Reykjavík in the afternoon or evening and stay one night in a 4 star hotel in the centre. Reykjavík is an exciting modern city with lots to see and do, or if you want to relax, visit one of the many spas and swimming pools. We will send you plenty of suggestions of the "must sees" in the city as well as short day tours available such as Whale Watching. The Northern Lights can also be spotted from Reykjavík or a short drive away from the city, ask us for top tips on where to spot this natural phenomenon.
Day 4 - Departure
Depending on your flight time, you may want to spend the morning in Reykjavík exploring or stop over at the world famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa.
Optional Excursion: Visit to the Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is ideally located between Reykjavík and Keflavík Airport. Relax for a few hours before heading to the airport. If you have a morning flight back you can visi the lagoon on arrival if flight time allows or as a day trip from Reykjavík.
