Itinerary Suggestion
Day 1 - Arrival and Northern Light Tour
Depart from your selected airport in the UK and arrive at Keflavík, Iceland’s main International Airport. You will be transported by the fast, reliable and convenient Reykjavík Excursions FlybusPlus service to Reykjavík. Enjoy exploring the City before going on a Northern Lights Hunt later tonight.
Northern Lights Hunt Tour
At 20.30/21.30 you will be picked up from Reykjavík by an expert local guide and begin your hunt for the magical Northern Lights. This natural phenomenon happens during the winter months and is caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere by the North Pole.
The locations visited vary depending on weather conditions and sightings are not guaranteed as the lights are a natural phenomenon. However, don’t worry- we will maximise your chance to see them. We always schedule your Northern Lights tour on your first available evening because you can then re-schedule free of charge another night. This means if you are in Iceland for 3 nights, you have 3 chances to see the lights!
There are many different Northern Lights tours, you can upgrade this experience. How about a Northern Lights Superjeep Tour, Northern Lights by Boat or combine your Northern Lights experience with a dip into a geothermal spa like Fontana Spa. Ask your Iceland Travel Specialist for different upgrade options!
Please note: There are no Northern Lights Tours operating on the 24th of December.
Day 2 - Explore ReykjavíkReykjavík is an exciting modern city with lots to see and do or if you want to relax visit one of the many spas and swimming pools. We will send you plenty of suggestions of the "must sees" in the city. If you are traveling in the lead up to Christmas, why not go for a stroll down Laugarvegur, Reykjavík's main shopping street, enjoy the many events around the city and get into the festive spirit.
Please note: If you are in Iceland on the 24th and 25th of December most things in Reykjavík are closed as Icelanders celebrate Christmas. We would suggest you go on an organised excursion during these days and can also arrange Christmas lunch / dinners at the hotel or local restaurants. Pre-booking in advance is advised.
Day 3 - Take an optional day tourToday is yours to continue to explore Reykjavík or take an optional day tour out of the city. Iceland has spectacular scenery and much of this is only an hour or two from Reykjavík. We will suggest some options for day and half day excursions which we can arrange for you. One of the most popular tours is the "Golden Circle Tour".
Optional Excursion: Golden Circle and Friðheimar Tour
Visit 3 of Iceland’s most famous sights in one day tour; Gullfoss, Geysir and Þingvellir. See Strokkur, an active geyser that shoots up a column of water up to 30 meters (98ft) followed by a visit to Gullfoss, a three-step waterfall that is a part of a glacier river. Finally, visit Þingvellir National Park that is also a UNESCO site that is geologically and historically significant. It is the location of the oldest parliament in the world and where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates pull the country apart. On this tour you will also visit Friðheimar greenhouse, one of the biggest in Iceland and you’ll learn about the magic of growing tomatoes using geothermal heat.
Day 4 - Departure
Today you will depart for home, unless you extend your stay!
You will be picked up from Reykjavík about 3 hours before your flight by the Reykjavík Excursions FlybusPlus service. Depart for home from Keflavík International Airport.
Depending on your flight time, you may want to explore Reykjavík in the morning or take an optional tour to the world-famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa on your way to the airport. The Lagoon is ideally located between the airport and Reykjavík so is an excellent way to end your Iceland Adventure!
Optional Excursion: Visit to the Blue Lagoon including Comfort Entry
Select a time to be picked up from Reykjavík and transported to the Lagoon. Enjoy the Blue Lagoon for as long as you like, and flight time allows. You can book a treatment, have lunch or just relax in this wonderful spa before carrying on to Keflavík Airport in time for your flight.
Included in the trip is pick up from Reykjavík, transfer to the Lagoon and onward to Keflavík Airport as well as use of towel, silica mud mask and drink of your choice from the in-water bar. For the ultimate luxury, upgrade to Premium Entry at the Lagoon, ask your Iceland Travel Specialist for details.
If you have a morning flight home, you can visit the Blue Lagoon on your arrival day or as a day trip from Reykjavík.
