Northern Lights and Glacier Ice Cave
-
Combine a short break in Reykavík with Iceland’s newest tourist attraction, the "Into the Glacier Ice Cave” or "Katla Ice Cave (Under the volcano)". These attractions should be high on any tourist’s “must-do” list. The Ice Cave Tours really puts the Ice in Iceland, taking glacier experiences to another level literally; the sub glacial layer to be precise. Enjoy a 3 night stay in Reykjavík where you will also hunt for the magnificent Northern Lights and have the opportunity to add on day tours to the surrounding countryside to see more of Iceland.
Highlights
- See the hidden and beautiful Blue Ice in the Heart of the Glacier or visit the Katla Ice Cave (Under the volcano)
- Hunt for the Northern Lights
- Enjoy Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland
-
Itinerary Suggestion
Day 1 - Arrival
Arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Transfer to your accommodation in the city center, Reykjavík, double/twin room including breakfast.
Northern lights Tour
You will be picked up from your hotel between 20.30pm / 21.30pm by an experienced English speaking guide. You will travel by coach to the best locations which will vary depending on the weather and viewing conditions so every night's outing is different. Duration is around 3 hours. There are many ways to see the lights, ask us about our fantastic upgrade options like Northern Lights by Boat and Northern Lights Superjeep tours!Because of the weather, sightings of the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed. If the tour has to be cancelled you can join the tour again the following night, free of charge.
Day 2 – Go Into the Glacier / The Katla Ice Cave (Under the volcano)Pick up from hotel at 08.30, tour duration total 9-10 hours.
This day tour will enable you to explore around, on and within, the giant, 953sq/km glacier, with a bonus visits en-route to the glacier: Hraunfossar, a spectacular waterfall, with a further two on the return: Kaldidalur, a highland track and Þingvellir, a beautiful national park with amazing scenery, to give you a truly memorable day.
Experience the awesome ice cap glacial environment. Ride in specially modified glacier vehicle. Bear witness to global warming. Whilst there are a few man-made Ice Tunnels and Ice Caves in various places around the world, there is nothing quite like Into the glacier, either high up in a remote area of an Ice Cap Glacier, or on such a scale. Never before has anyone been able to see the beautiful blue ice at the heart of an Ice Cap Glacier; it is not quite a Jules Verne journey to the centre of the earth, or even to the absolute centre of the glacier, but it feels like an exciting and magical journey, deep within the glacier, and it is deep enough to reach another world, a world of magnificent, stunning blue ice.
Lunch stop will be made at Husafell (where you will have the opportunity to buy lunch).
