Northern Lights and Into the Glacier
Combine a short break in Reykavík with Iceland’s newest tourist attraction, the "Into the Glacier Ice Cave”. This attraction should be high on any tourist’s “must-do” list. The Ice Cave Tour really puts the Ice in Iceland, taking glacier experiences to another level literally; the sub glacial layer to be precise. Enjoy a 3 night stay in Reykjavík where you will also hunt for the magnificent Northern Lights and have the opportunity to add on day tours to the surrounding countryside to see more of Iceland.
- See the hidden and beautiful Blue Ice in the Heart of the Glacier
- Hunt for the Northern Lights
- Enjoy Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland
SUGGESTED ITINERARY - 3 NIGHTS
Day 1 - Arrival
Arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Transfer to your accommodation in the city center, Reykjavík, double/twin room including breakfast.
Northern lights Tour
You will be picked up from your hotel between 20.30pm / 21.30pm by an experienced English speaking guide. You will travel by coach to the best locations which will vary depending on the weather and viewing conditions so every night's outing is different. Duration is around 3 hours. There are many ways to see the lights, ask us about our fantastic upgrade options like Northern Lights by Boat and Northern Lights Superjeep tours!
Because of the weather, sightings of the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed. If the tour has to be cancelled you can join the tour again the following night, free of charge.
Day 2 – Go Into the Glacier
Pick up from hotel at 08.30, tour duration total 9-10 hours.
This day tour will enable you to explore around, on and within, the giant, 953sq/km glacier, with a bonus visits en-route to the glacier: Hraunfossar, a spectacular waterfall, with a further two on the return: Kaldidalur, a highland track and Þingvellir, a beautiful national park with amazing scenery, to give you a truly memorable day.
Experience the awesome ice cap glacial environment. Ride in specially modified glacier vehicle. Bear witness to global warming. Whilst there are a few man-made Ice Tunnels and Ice Caves in various places around the world, there is nothing quite like Into the glacier, either high up in a remote area of an Ice Cap Glacier, or on such a scale. Never before has anyone been able to see the beautiful blue ice at the heart of an Ice Cap Glacier; it is not quite a Jules Verne journey to the centre of the earth, or even to the absolute centre of the glacier, but it feels like an exciting and magical journey, deep within the glacier, and it is deep enough to reach another world, a world of magnificent, stunning blue ice.
Lunch stop will be made at Husafell (where you will have the opportunity to buy lunch).
Note: We reserve the right to change the itinerary and the mode of transport / cancel the trip, according to weather or road conditions, or circumstances beyond our control. In the winter time the duration of the tours may vary according to weather and road and glacier conditions.
Day 3 - Explore Reykjavík or take a day tour
Today is yours to continue to explore Reykjavík or take an optional day tour out of the city. Iceland has spectacular scenery and much of this is only an hour or two from Reykjavík. We will suggest some options for day and half day excursions which we can arrange for you. One of the most popular tour is the "Golden Circle Tour".
Optional Excursion: Golden Circle Tour
The Golden Circle is a fascinating experience. You will explore the world-famous Geysir geothermal area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance, geysers erupt and pools of mud bubble.
You also stop by the magnificent Gullfoss waterfalls and visit Þingvellir National Park, the original site of the oldest existing parliament in the world. At Þingvellir, the great Atlantic rift is clearly visible; a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates.
Day 4 - Departure
Departure to the UK from Keflavík International Airport.
Depending on your flight time, you may want to explore Reykjavík in the morning or take an optional tour to the world famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa on your way to the airport.
Optional Excursion: Visit to the Blue Lagoon
Enjoy the Blue Lagoon for 2-3 hours. You can book a treatment if you like, have a lunch at the Blue Lagoon or just relax in this wonderful spa. If you have a morning flight, you can do the Blue Lagoon as a day trip from Reykjavík or on arrival.
