Family Tour - South, Reykjanes Peninsula and Reykjavík

    • This package is designed for families with children/teenegers. Travelling with your family around Iceland is easy. Take your time and visit unique places with stunning landscapes in only a week, but staying at the same two locations. Driving is kept to a minimum or just as you wish. Sites and activities are very interesting to children of all ages and all adults!

    • Itinerary Suggestion

      Day 1 - Arrival
      Arrival at Keflavík International Airport. Pick up your rental car and drive to the hotel in the South. Relax in the outdoor Jacuzzi or the pool. Explore the surrounding geothermal area with lovely walks nearby to your hotel.

      Overnight in the South for 5 nights.

      Day 2 - The Golden Circle
      Today you will explore the famous Golden Circle area and all of the main attractions. Take the golden circle route southwards. The route will lead you through Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, the golden waterfall Gullfoss, as well as the Geysir hot spring area in Haukadalur. The route will lead you through Laugarvatn village where you can go to Fontana Spa, a natural geothermal spa, there you can also taste rye bread cooked in the Geothermal Bakery at Laugarvatn Fontana. Why also not visit Slakki Family Park and Farm Animal Zoo at Laugarás near Flúðir? On the route back you can take an additional stop at Kerið Volcanic Crater.

      Overnight in the South for 5 nights.

      Day 3 - Blue Lagoon and Reykjanes Peninsula area.
      Explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for relaxation. Please note, entry to the lagoon must be pre-booked, we can help you!

      Option: Visit the Lava Tunnel at Raufarhólshellir.

      Overnight at the same hotel.

      Day 4 - Skógafoss Waterfall and History
      Drive along the scenic south coast back to Reykjavík, where you will spend your last night. On your way, why not stop at Skógar and visit the popular folk museum to learn a bit more about Icelandic History and of course see the majestic Skógafoss waterfall.

      Another option is to drive through the highlands of Iceland and experience the unique remoteness off the beaten track. Make your way to Landmannalaugar where you can bathe in the natural geothermal waters. Please note to drive this road you need a 4x4 vehicle suitable for the highlands only and the road is open just during summer.

      Day 5 - Volcanoes, Glaciers and Waterfalls of the South
      Travel along the southern coast of Iceland on the main road, road number 1. Stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss at the edge of the world famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier. You can walk behind the waterfall and make a wish! Drive further along the south coast to Vík to take a walk on the endless black sand beach and take in the dramatic landscape. While driving, prepare to be impressed with the view of the mighty Vatnajökull glacier.

      Optional: If you feel like exploring further why not visit Vatnajökull National Park and the National Park of Skaftafell where you can find marked paths suitable for hiking. You can also book an optional guided glacier hike tour.

      Further explore Ingólfshöfði cape, where you might catch a glimpse of the cute Atlantic Puffins. Afterwards, we suggest heading to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

      Optional: Book a guided boat trip on the lagoon sailing amongst icebergs in the lagoon.

      Day 5 - Reykjavík City
      Drive to Reykjavik in the afternoon or evening and stay one night in a 3 star standard hotel in the centre. Reykjavík is an exciting modern city with lots to see and do, or if you want to relax, visit one of the many spas and swimming pools. We will send you plenty of suggestions of the "must sees" in the City as well as short day tours.

      Optional: Book a Whale Watching or Puffin Watching tour.

      Overnight in the 3 star hotel in Reykjavík for 2 nights.

      Day 6 - Reykjavík City
      Time to enjoy your time in Reykjavík. Stroll through Reykjavík City centre, visit the Family Park and Farm Animal Zoo and go to an outdoor swimming pool Laugardalslaug. Don’t miss the viewing platform at “Perlan” , where you can enjoy a delicious ice cream and visit the incredible Exhibitions. Younger children might like to feed the ducks and swans at the City pond Tjörnin. You might also like to go to Nauthólsvík, a geothermal beach with hot tubs where you can relax after a long day of sightseeing!

      Overnight in the 3 star hotel in Reykjavík.

      Day 7 - Departure
      If time allows depending on your flight time. Enjoy Reykjavík and then it is time to head to the airport about 3.5 hours before your flight departs. Drop the rental car off at Keflavík International Airport. Depart for home.
