SUGGESTED ITINERARY - 4 Nights
Day 1 - Arrival
Pick up the rental car at the airport and start your trip by driving to the city.
Accommodation is in a double/twin room in central Reykjavík in a three star hotel with private facilities including breakfast. Enjoy Reykjavík by night and look out for the Northern Lights in the evening. We will send you plenty of suggestions of where you can spot the aurora from the city or a short drive away from the city lights for better viewing conditions.
Day 2 - The Golden Circle Drive
Drive to Þingvellir National Park, continue to Gullfoss waterfalls and on to Geysir geo-thermal area. Overnight stay in the area, hotel is ideally located for Northern Lights viewing. Stay updated with the Northern Lights forecast, ask the locals about their activity levels and if the night is clear hunt for the lights
Day 3 - Waterfalls, Volcanoes and Glaciers
Explore Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls; passing Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Hunt for the Northern Lights in the evening.
Glacier Walk at Sólheimajökull
Drive to base camp and enjoy a 3 hour Glacier Walk where you explore the wonderland of the Ice Sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses on this breathtaking glacier. Your expert guide will teach you about the behaviour of the glaciers, their impact on nature and let you enjoy the spectacular surroundings and features of the glacier itself. This is an easy tour and no previous experience is neccessary, the guide will provide you with the safety equipment needed and teach you how to use them. A unique experience!
Overnight stay in the area, ideal location for Northern Lights viewing.
Day 4 - South Shore
Explore the Vik area, a small village where Katla and Eyjafjallajökull Volcanos are located. Drive back to Reykjavík. Overnight stay in the city.
Day 5 - Departure
Depending on your flight time, you may want to spend the morning in Reykjavík exploring or stop over at the world famous Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa.
Optional Excursion: Visit to the Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is ideally located between Reykjavík and Keflavík Airport. Relax for a few hours before heading to the airport. If you have a morning flight back you can visi the lagoon on arrival if flight time allows or as a day trip from Reykjav'ik.
Return the rental car at Keflavík International Airport.
